How To Score

Each game of tenpin bowling has a total of ten frames, each having a possible 2 shots (apart from the tenth). If you strike out all the way (12 strikes) you've hit the maximum score of 300.

The aim of the game when it all comes down to it is very simple : hit as many pins over was you can!! "Oh well" you say, the scoring will be easy!!! Well, it is, but not as simple as you might think. You can also get bonus pins! I'll take you through it using this basic score board below

The first thing you'll notice is that there are three different types of things on there. Numbers, X's and the / symbol. As it says above, the X is a strike (when you knock down all 10 pins in a single shot) and the / is a spare (when it take you take 2 goes to hit them all down).

When you do not hit all the pins over, life is simple, how ever many pins you hit, you add onto your score. So if you got a 9 then a 0 on your first go, your score would be 9.

When you hit all the pins over in 2 shots, thats called a spare. When you get a spare it counts for the 10 pins you hit, and then the next shot added on. So if you got a 9/ in the first frame, and them a 5 in the first shot of the of the second frame, it would be 10 pins for the 9/ and 5 for the next shot. 10+5=15.

When you get a strike, it counts for all 10 pins you hit like the spare does, exsept with a strike you add the next 2 shots on to it.

In the tenth frame, if you get all ten pins down in the first 2 (or 1) shots you'll get a maxium of three shots in that frame. See above.

During the game you may see other symbols ocurring such as "s" indicating a split (2 pins which are not next to each other and not including the head pin) and "e" or "a". If you see either letter there is a good chance someone has changed the score!!!

Take a look at the score above and see if you can follow it through!!
