Instructors Tips For Beginners
As you begin on the long trek of learning to bowl, where, on the way you will encounter an increasing number of technical pieces of information, you first and foremost need to remember that this SPORT not necessarily to be learnt only for the competitive side. It is there to be ENJOYED and no matter whether you excel at it or not, if you exceed your own expectations whilst enjoying it then it has served its purpose.
OK, so you want to win competitions. Perhaps you may be one of the lucky ones and succeed in bowling for your County or even your Country but you will more likely benefit more from the experiences gained on the way, and the companionship of the new friends you meet, than from the winning. Always aim for your goals a step at a time, work out where you want to be in the coming year and the steps you need to achieve that goal, but make it realistic. Don't aim for the Sun when in reality you know you can only reach the moon.
As a young beginner take it step at a time - only use B.T.B.A. LICENSED instructors - you can make sure this is the case by joining your local Youth Bowling Club (YBC) that is affiliated to the National Association of Youth Bowling Clubs (N.A.Y.B.C.). If, whilst bowling, you are approached by an adult who says he can help you - ask to see his B.T.B.A. Instructors license. You can get the name and contact number of your local Y.B.C. by visiting the N.A.Y.B.C. web site (www.NAYBC.co.uk) and asking them by using their E-Mail link.
There are many different ways of bowling and many differing ways of teaching you but at the end of the day YOU must feel comfortable with the outcome as it is YOU that should enjoy the sport. Later as you gradually learn the technical side (lane conditions, ball types etc. ) your Instructor will help you to develop your game to achieve better results using the newly acquired information. You can use your instructors knowledge and experience to enhance and update what you already know, so ASK.
